10 youths killed while meeting in Benue state

Residents of a local government in Benue state have continued to mourn about 24 hours after unknown gunmen snuffed life out of 10 members of the Community Joint Task Force (CJTF) who were meeting in Abaji in Katsina-Ala local government area of Benue state.
A top official of the body says the organisation has been at loggerheads with a monarch in the area. He sis not however mention the alleged royal father.
The members of the CJTF were said to be meeting when two gunmen suddenly appeared on a Bajaj motorcycle and shot at them.

While 10 of the members died instantly, some others sustained injury and are currently receiving treatment.
The report said the bodies of those that were killed have been deposited at the Katsina-Ala General Hospital mortuary.
The incident was confirmed by the spokesperson of the Nigeria police in the state, Moses Yamu.
While calling for calm, he said nine persons died while security has been beefed up in the local government.
Vanguard also reports that while confirming the attack in a telephone interview, the state chairman of the CJTF, Alhaji Aliu Teshaku, said the incident happened during a routine weekly meeting of his members.
Tseshaku said: “The information I received was that our members were in a meeting today (Sunday), when three armed men on motorbike, dressed in mobile police uniform, suddenly stormed the meeting venue and opened fire on the unarmed CJTF members killing 10 of them on the spot, while two others were left with serious bullet injuries.”

He said the organisation had been having a running battle with a traditional ruler in the area.
“A few days ago, I reported the matter to the special adviser to Governor Samuel Otorm on security and just today (yesterday) this happened.”
